Reflections from the 2025 Senior Games in Des Moines

This summer, I had the privilege of attending the 2025 Senior Games in Des Moines—a celebration not just of athleticism, but of spirit, resilience, and the quiet defiance of age as a limitation. From the moment I stepped onto the grounds, I was surrounded by people who had rewritten the rules of aging. Athletes in their 80s, pickleball teams in their 70s, sprinters in their 60s—all competing with the kind of fire that most reserve for youth.
The events were as diverse as the participants: track and field, pickleball, swimming, archery, and even corn hole! Each age category—from 50 to 100+—was a reminder that movement doesn’t expire with time. It evolves. It deepens. It becomes more intentional.
🌿 Aging Is a Context, Not a Cage
If there’s one message I took home from Des Moines, it’s this: age is a number, yes—but more importantly, it’s a context. It tells a story, but it doesn’t dictate the ending. Whether you’re 55 or 85, the decision to move, to grow, to challenge yourself is always available. You don’t need to be an Olympian. You just need to start.
Start walking. Start stretching. Start dancing in your kitchen. Start hiking with a friend who reminds you that joy isn’t reserved for the young. Start believing that your best days might still be ahead.

✨ The Invitation
The Senior Games weren’t just inspiring—they were instructive. They taught me that fulfillment isn’t found in avoiding age, but in embracing it with courage and curiosity. So if you’ve been waiting for a sign to begin your wellness journey, let this be it.
Because age is just a number. And you? You’re timeless.
