In January 2017, I looked at a screen during church and saw a photo of myself — and I didn’t recognize the man staring back. That moment triggered a shift. I was struggling with sleep, juggling medications for high blood pressure, cholesterol, and acid reflux. Something had to change.

🎯 Setting the Goal
Using insights from leadership training, I built my goal around three principles: measurable, obtainable, and sustainable. My target? Lose one pound per week. I printed it out as a weekly reminder — a compass pointing toward transformation.

👟 Lacing Up… and Kilting Up
I grabbed a pair of beat-up yard shoes and started running. It was messy, and I was lucky not to injure myself. But the game-changer? A ripstop utility kilt. Cold-weather runs and all-season hikes suddenly became comfortable and motivating. I wasn’t just moving — I was moving boldly.

🥗 Fueling the Change
I overhauled my eating habits: ditching simple sugars, embracing oatmeal, eggs, veggies, and whole foods. My taste buds recalibrated, and vibrant flavors took center stage. The results followed—my BMI dropped from nearly 28 to under 25 in just eight months.

💪 Lifelong Gains
I’ve since come off two medications and sleep soundly. My passion for movement deepened—teaching couch-to-5K classes, diving into weightlifting, and redefining my physique. Ten pounds of muscle later, I dropped two pant sizes and fit back into my college clothes. Even my kilts are smaller.

👑 What the Kilt Means
Beyond practicality, the kilt became a symbol of confidence. Kilt Confidence is about standing apart—investing in your body, living with intention, and silencing the critics through action. It’s not just about losing weight. It’s about gaining life.
